Canadian Dental Benefit | Affordable Dentistry
Children need to have regular dental cleanings and care, just as their parents and guardians do. Our dental hygiene practice approaches each child with care and provides their parents and guardians with a customized treatment plan to meet the oral health needs of their child. Even better is that the Canadian government is giving your child a new benefit called the Canada Dental Benefit (CDB). Now, your child's dental visits may be covered.
For Children Under 12
In December 2022, the government of Canada announced that eligible families that do not have dental insurance can receive up to $650 per child to cover their dental appointments, however, the amount varies based on their household income. Eligible services include oral surgery, preventive, restorative, endodontic, periodontic, prosthodontic, and orthodontic services.
You can learn more and apply for this benefit through the CRA's website.
It is important to note that the eligible services and the amount of the benefit are both subject to change.
HOUSEHOLD INCOME | MAXIMUM ANNUAL BENEFIT PER CHILD |
---|---|
Under $70,000 | $650 |
$70,000 to $79,999 | $390 |
$80,000 to $89,000 | $260 |
Canadian Dental Care Plan
We also accept CDCP coverage. Coverage for services will begin in December 2023. Canada recognizes the significance of oral health as a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and yet dental care remains unaffordable for many Canadians. Freedom from pain should not be a luxury.
Cost Barrier | Approximately one-third of people in Canada lack dental insurance. In 2022, one in four Canadians reported avoiding dental visits due to cost concerns. The absence of coverage can lead to untreated oral health issues, and clogging our emergency rooms.
Health Implications | Poor oral health is not just about teeth; bacteria from our mouths can travel in our bloodstream and impact our entire body. Neglected oral health may contribute to:
- Respiratory disease
- Diabetes complications
- Cardiovascular disease
- Stroke
- Cancer
- Pregnancy complications
- Life-threatening infections
- Increased mortality from all causes
- Mental health issues
- Reduced quality of life
- Employment challenges
- Social stigma
- Nutritional issues
- Isolation
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will help ease financial barriers to accessing oral health care for eligible Canadian residents who have an annual adjusted family net income of less than $90,000 and do not have access to dental insurance.
Applications will open in phases starting with seniors. Your acceptance letter will include a date when you can first seek out dental services, and this will be soon.
